Detailed Solution

Methanoic acid contains both aldehyde group and carboxylic acid group while Ethanoic acid only contains carboxylic acid group.

Aldehydes respond to Fehling's test, but ketones and acid do not. Hence methanoic acid answers for Fehling test and Tollen's reagent.

Methanoic acid gives CO gas with sulphuric acid while Ethanoic acid does not give CO gas.

Both formic acid and acetic acid can react with FeCl3 in a similar manner.
