MGNREGA, 2005 provides 100 days of employment to people capable and willing to work in rural areas.
To implement the Right to Work in a shorter span of time, the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) program was launched in 2005. Under this act, mainly those jobs were provided that could increase production from the land through primary activities in the coming years. The MGNREGA was a quick measure taken by the central government to improve employment levels throughout the country instead of leaving it to the state governments to make plans to increase employment in their respective states, as it would take a longer time to be implemented.
