MGNREGA guarantees jobs to the poor for 100 days.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, or MGNREGA, initiated in 2005, provides a legal guarantee of wage employment to adult rural family members for 100 days in a financial year. Under MGNREGA, work is guaranteed for 100 days. Any person willing to do unskilled manual labour can apply for employment under this scheme, and he/she will get the work within 15 days of application. If a person doesn't get work, he/she will be given an unemployment allowance. One-third of the jobs are also reserved for women.
