MGNREGA stands for Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
One of the Acts through which the Government ensures the promotion of economic growth is the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005. It aims to provide 100 days of employment and wages to every household to ensure livelihood security in rural areas. It has already provided work to 220 crore person-days of jobs to 4.78 crore households. The wages of the unskilled manual workers were revised in March 2018, wherein the range for wages was between Rs. 281 per day for the workers in Haryana and Rs. 168 per day for the workers from Bihar and Jharkhand. It also encourages the participation of SC, ST and women workers and their person-days in the scheme were 23%, 17% and 53%, respectively.
