MGNREGA is a government-provided wage employment program that stands for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. The Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Act (MGNREGA) is a wage employment program enacted by the government of India in the year 2005. This program aims to grant the "right to work" to the citizens of India. MGNREGA was passed in parliament in September 2005. Under this program, all those who are in need of employment and are able and willing to do manual, unskilled work are guaranteed 100 days of assured wage employment in a year by the government. In the event of the government’s failure to provide such employment, it will give unemployment allowances to the targeted people.
