Mira Behn worked for equal rights for all people, against untouchability and caste prejudice, and for women's rights. She gave top priority to strengthening agriculture, cottage industries, and education. She advocated for the preservation of the environment and was concerned about advancing the economy. She was awarded the Padma Vibhushan award in 1982.
