Mongol attacks in the subcontinent increased during the reign of Alauddin Khalji.
The Mongols, under the rule of the mighty Genghis Khan, invaded Transoxiana in the northeastern region of Iran in 1219. He made his way to the subcontinent soon after. Mongol attacks on the Delhi Sultanate drastically increased during Alauddin Khilji. It led the Sultan to mobilise a large standing army.
