Monsoons retreat during the month of October-November.
The monsoon starts withdrawing from the northwestern states in early September. By mid-October, it withdrew entirely from the northern parts of India. The southern half of the Indian subcontinent experiences a fairly rapid withdrawal of monsoon. By early December, the monsoon withdraws from the entire mainland. October-November is said to be the post-monsoon or retreating monsoon season. The islands on either side of India receive rainfall in April-May, and it withdraws from this region during December-January when the rest of the country receives winter rainfall. The retreating monsoons are also the transition from the wet rainy season to the dry winter.
