Detailed Solution

Most Indian indentured workers came from Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The majority of Indian indentured workers were hired from agricultural classes in East Uttar Pradesh. Due to many factors in the mid-nineteenth century, such as the decline in cottage industries, increase in land rents and clearing of lands for mining and plantations, the life of poor people became miserable. These people could not pay rent and thus became indebted. So workers and agricultural classes went abroad to escape unemployment and also wanted to repay their debts and escape poverty.
