Detailed Solution

Given that, Mr. Mehta purchased a video for Rs. 20000 and a television for Rs. 30000. If he lost 5% on the video and on the television he earned a profit of 8%.
We have the following formula:
S.P=selling price.
C.P=cost price.
Gain=S.P-C.P
Gain%= S.PC.P C.P ×100
Loss=C.P-S.P
Loss%= C.PS.P C.P ×100   The S.P of video at which he lost 5%  is,
= 1005 100 ×20000 = 95 100 ×20000 =19000
Therefore, S.P of TV at which he gain 8% is,
= 100+8 100 ×30000 = 108 100 ×30000 =32400
Total S.P,
=19000+32400
=51400
Total C.P is,
=20000+30000 =50000
The gain percent of the cycles is,
= 5140050000 50000 ×100 = 1400 50000 ×100 =2.8%   The gain percent is 2.8%.
Therefore, the correct option is 3.
