Detailed Solution

Mughals divided their empire equally among their sons.
The Mughals believed in the rule of coparcenary succession. This was opposed to the rule of primogeniture succession, where the eldest son was made the king after his father and was eligible to inherit his father’s empire. In the coparcenary succession based on Mughal and Timurid customs, the empire was to be divided equally amongst all of the emperor's sons. This was also visible in the case of Babur when Humayun divided the empire and gave each of his brothers a province as per the will of his father, Babur. However, it failed to be followed in the time of Aurangzeb, who killed all his brothers in the war of succession and became the Mughal emperor.
