Mughals were the descendants of Timur from their father’s side of the family.
Mughals traced their lineage from great rulers on both sides of the family. On the maternal side, they were the heirs of the great Mongolian emperor Genghis Khan, and on their paternal side, they were the heirs of Timur. Timur was the ruler of Iran, equal to present-day Iran and Turkey. The Mughals were proud of their connection with Timur and their Timurid ancestry.
