Dachigam in Jammu and Kashmir is a national park. Dachigam Park is located twenty-two kilometres from Srinagar in Jammu and the geographic region. It covers a section of 141 square kilometres. The name practically translates to "ten cities," possibly reminiscent of the 10 cities that settled to form the park. Dachigam was originally established to confirm the availability of clean drinking water for the city of Srinagar. A protected area since 1910, it was declared a national park in 1981. The park is better known as the home of the Hangul or Kashmir deer.
