Black soil is also known as Regur soil. It has a fine clay texture and water-holding capacity. It swells in the rainy season and cracks in the summer. So, it is self-ploughing soil. It has calcium, magnesium, iron, aluminium, etc., but it lacks nitrogen and phosphorus. It is present in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, etc. Cotton is the main crop of black soil. That is why it is also called black cotton soil. Cotton, sugarcane, pulses, tobacco, etc., grows well in black soil.
