Black soil is found in the state of Gujarat. Black soil covers the vast majority of the Deccan Plateau, which incorporates portions of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and a few pieces of Tamil Nadu. Wheat, groundnut and cotton require black soil to grow. The shade of the soil goes from deep black to dark. They enlarge and become tacky when wet and psychological when dried. Thus, during the dry season, this soil fosters wide breaks in the upper compasses of the Godavari and the Krishna, and in the north-western piece of the Deccan Plateau, the black soil is extremely profound. These soils are called 'Regur Soil' or the 'Black Cotton Soil'.
