Navdanya Movement and Chipko movement both are not resistance to multipurpose projects. The villagers started it in 1973 in the Chamoli district in Uttar Pradesh( now in Uttarakhand) to conserve the trees from cutting when people hugged trees to stop them from cutting. This movement was started by Dr Vandana Shiva thirty years ago. The main motive of this movement is to save Seed and Food sovereignty and small farmers worldwide.
