Growing more than one crop is known as multiple cropping. Traditionally, Indian farmers depended on the monsoon for farming. So they cultivated two crops annually. One was the Kharif, and the other was a Rabbi. But with increased land under irrigation, farmers have started growing three crops a year. This is called "multiple cropping." But multiple cropping uses the land very intensively and reduces soil fertility. So this is not sustainable land use.
