Tetany refers to rapid spasms (wild contractions) in muscle due to low Ca++ in body fluids. PTH is the hypercalcemic hormone and increases blood calcium levels. Decrease in PTH secretion would decrease blood calcium levels leading to tetany. Thyrocalcitonin (TCT) is a hypocalcemic hormone. Its deficiency will lead to an increase in blood calcium levels.
