Roots of higher plants associated with fungal mycelia are called as mycorrhizal roots. These are seen in Pinus and some angiosperms. The fungus is usually Glomus. Such roots help in more absorption of minerals and water from the soil particularly the phosphates. The fungus and the plant show symbiosis. Cycas has coralloid roots meant for nitrogenous nutrition. Turnip and carrot have storage tap roots but not mycorrhizal roots.
