In 1739, Nadir Shah pillaged the city of Delhi.
During the end of the 17th century and early 18th century, the Mughal Empire was in the doldrums. It was facing political instability in addition to the financial crunch. Adding fuel to the Fire Mughal Empire also witnessed various invasions in the form of the Nadir Shah invasion and the Ahmed Shah Abdali invasion. Nadir Shah, from Iran, invaded India in 1739 and plundered the city of Delhi. He took away Delhi's immense wealth and glory by plundering and devastating the whole Empire. It is said that because of the wealth he acquired from the invasion, the people of Iran were exempted from the taxes for almost 3 years as the wealth was so high to manage the revenue.
