The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was established during the Cold War as an association of nations that wished to maintain their independence or neutrality rather than overtly aligning with either the US or the USSR. In other words, during the Cold War, they preferred not to support either superpower. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Abdel Nasser, and Josip Tito formed NAM together. The fundamental tenet of Indian foreign policy was also NAM. The three main factors that affected its methodology were the right to independent judgement, the fight against imperialism and neo-colonialism, and the use of moderation in interactions with all major nations.
