Detailed Solution

Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated at Waterloo.
Napoleon saw himself in the role of moderniser of Europe. After becoming the ruler, he annexed large parts of Europe to create a large army so that he would not depend on anyone. Napoleon also introduced some laws, such as protecting private property and a uniform system of weights and measures. He formulated The Civil Code of 1804, also known as Napoleonic Laws, which led to administrative reforms in all regions under French control. Napoleon Bonaparte was also considered a military dictator because of his fierce military operations. However, it was the political instability of the Directory that paved the way for Napoleon. He was defeated in 1815 at Waterloo.
