Detailed Solution

The major supplier of wheat during the First World War was Canada.
Wheat prices rose far more slowly than projected in the early months of the war. The Food Supply Committee noticed an irregularity in the market around October 1914; as international markets began to stabilize, price swings became less dramatic, and the wheels of international commerce began to turn again. Wheat prices usually fall at this time of year, when the European harvests are mostly finished. They did, however, rise in 1914. Eastern Europe was a key wheat supplier in the world before the war. Wheat production in Canada, America, and Australia exploded when this supply was disrupted during the war. However, after the war, eastern European production resurrected, resulting in a wheat oversupply.
