Detailed Solution

Among all iron ores, magnetite is the finest. The iron content of magnetite ore is seventy per cent. This ore exhibits good magnetic properties. The chemical formula of magnetite is Fe3O4. Iron is extracted from iron oxide by reducing magnetite (Fe3O4) to ferrous oxide (FeO). Magnetite is black and comprises 62-70% of metallic content. It is mainly found in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The iron ore belts in India are the Odisha-Jharkhand belt, Durg-Bastar-Chandrapur belt, Ballari-Chitradurga-Chikkamagaluru-Tumakuru belt and Maharashtra-Goa belt.
