Name the force which is applied by water on the ship in an ocean.

• According to Archimedes’ principle, when a body is immersed fully or partially in a liquid, it experiences an upward force that is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by it. 
• The upward force exerted by the liquid on the body is known as upthrust or buoyant force.
• If the object's density is less than that of the density of the water, it floats. Buoyant force helps the object float on the water.
• The buoyant force also helps the ship to float on the water, as it pushes the object upwards.

Hence,  the force that is applied by water on the ship in an ocean is the buoyant force.
