Issac Newton was the first to obtain the spectrum of sunlight using a glass prism. He tried to split the white light spectrum more by using another similar prism, but he could not get any more colours. So he repeated the experiment using the second prism in an inverted position with respect to the first prism and allowing all the spectrum colours to pass through the second prism. He found white light emerging on the other side of the second prism.
