Narmada Bachao Andolan is related to the Sardar Sarovar Dam constructed over the river Narmada. Since its foundation in 1961, this Andolan was started to stop the construction of the Dam. This Andolan was led by the social activist Medha Patkar when she first visited the Dam in 1985. The Andolan included court actions, Hunger Strikes, rallies, and gaining support from notable film artists, environmentalists, etc. The people associated with the Andolan demanded not to construct the Dam as it did not follow the required environmental and social measures declared by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. This demand was accepted later on by the Supreme Court of India.
