The Sher Shah Suri Marg, or the Grand Trunk Road, was built during the reign of Shershah Suri, connecting India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan with a length of about 2400 km. The part of this road through India was named National Highway No.1 (NH 1) according to the old numbering. It connected the National Capital Territory of Delhi and Amritsar and extended up to the India-Pakistan border at Attari in Punjab.
