Near Ajmer, Pushkar lake has attracted pilgrims from ancient times.
Pushkar, a lake close to Ajmer, has drawn pilgrims since ancient times. The subcontinent began to be peppered with some small towns from the eighth century onward. The majority of legends surrounding the lake state that when Lord Brahma vanquished the demon Vajranabha, three petals of his sacred lotus fell at three points, producing springs in their places, which came to be known as Pushkar. Later, Brahma also carried out a yagna there. Hindu legend states that a flower petal that fell from the sky created the lake.
