Detailed Solution

News of the Non-Cooperation Movement made the plantation workers of Assam defy the authorities and head home.
When the call of non-cooperation against the British came, a horde of plantation workers in Assam defied their British employers and left the plantations for home. The Non-Cooperation Movement of 1921, a non-violent agitation, saw the participation of several new groups. The plantation workers in Assam interpreted Mahatma Gandhi and the notion of independence in their ways. For them, independence and freedom meant freedom to move freely in and out of the tea estates and visit their villages once in a while, which was restricted under the Inland Emigration Act of 1859.
