Niyamgiri Hill is a sacred mountain of an Adivasi community called Dongarria Kinds. It is located in the Kalahandi district of Orissa. The Dongarra Kinds have been living in this area for a very long time. When the proposal for the setting up of a mine and a refinery by an aluminium company in the area came up, the community stood up against it. It fears that the move would lead to a wide-scale displacement of people from the area. Their concerns are a result of other such programmes which have led to the devastation of the tribal communities. They have approached the courts to get justice and environmentalists have supported their cause.
