Nizam-ul-Mulk Asaf Jah founded the Hyderabad state.
At the court of the Mughal Emperor Farrukh Siyar, Asaf Jah was one of the most influential officials. He was granted control of the Deccan after initially being awarded the governorship of Awadh. Asaf Jah already had complete authority over the political and monetary management of the Deccan provinces because he was the Mughal administrator of those regions. He amassed influence and eventually took control of the Deccan by taking advantage of the unrest and the rivalry among the court nobility.
