Detailed Solution

Concept- Elements in the periodic table are further classified into metals, nonmetals, and metalloids based on their properties. Nonmetals are elements that create negative ions by gaining or accepting electrons.
Now, nonmetals are electron acceptors and bases are electron donors. Thus, in a reaction between a nonmetal and a base, the base donates electrons to the nonmetal and the nonmetal readily accepts them, thus forming a salt.
For example: The reaction between chlorine, which is a nonmetal, and sodium hydroxide, which is a strong base. The reaction can be written as follows
Cl2+2NaOHNaCl+NaOCl+H2O
Thus, when chlorine reacts with basic sodium hydroxide, numerous products are formed such as sodium chloride, sodium hypochlorite and water where sodium chloride is a salt.
Hence, the correct option is (2).
