NSSO stands for National Sample Survey Organisation.
The poverty line is determined periodically based on the surveys carried out by the NSSO (National Sample Survey Organisation). The NSSO was formed in 1950 to carry out extensive sample surveys throughout the country. In 2019, NSSO was merged with CSO (Central Statistical Office) to form NSC or National Statistical Commission. The NSC is headed by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI). The objective of the NSC is to reduce the problems faced by institutions like NSSO and CSO concerning data collection.
