When two individual forces have the same magnitude but opposite directions, the forces are said to be balanced.

In the above diagram, we can see force, $F_1$ and $F_2=5 \mathrm{N}$
It is a balanced force because the body has the same magnitude.
Here, the direction of force is opposite, then,

Consider $F_1=-5 \mathrm{N}$ and $F_2=5 \mathrm{N}$
We know that net force, $F_{\text{net }}=F_1+F_2=-5+5=0 \mathrm{N}$.
Hence, the net force acting on the object is equal to $0 \mathrm{N}$.
