Zinc oxide is a white powder that turns yellow when heated to high temperatures (over 800°C), but returns to white when cooled. Because the hot zinc oxide absorbs some of the light's blue wavelengths, the reflected light becomes more yellow. It's a reversible chemical shift because of the lack of oxygen.
