Detailed Solution

An electric bell works on the principle of the magnetic effect of electric current.
An electric bell consists of an electromagnet which, when current is passed through it, becomes a magnet, and the bell starts ringing. The following diagram shows the structure of an electric bell. Question ImageWhen the electromagnet gets magnetized, it attracts the armature towards itself, and the clapper attached to the armature swings towards the gong and hits it. When the armature gets attached to the electromagnet, the circuit breaks, and the electromagnet gets demagnetized. This process repeats itself, and we hear the ringing of the bell.
