Detailed Solution

Tooth enamel is made of calcium phosphate. It does not dissolve in water, but when the pH in the mouth decreases to5.5 or less,it starts corroding. When we eat chocolates or sweets small pieces of these stick to our teeth. The bacteria present in our teeth start decaying the food particles, as a result of which a small amount of acid is produced. This acid decreases the pH of the mouth and results in the decay of tooth enamel. Microorganisms are always present in the mouth. When we consume sweets, microorganisms convert the sugar into acid, which causes the degradation of the teeth since it causes the enamel to lose potassium, which is responsible for its strength.
