Detailed Solution

Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was one of the most renowned reformers who advocated widow remarriage. Through old literature, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar proposed that widows should remarry. As a result, a statute authorising widow remarriage was passed in 1856. By the second half of the nineteenth century, additional regions of the nation had begun to follow the widow remarriage trend. The Hindu Widows' Remarriage Act of 1856 was approved even though widow remarriage was vehemently opposed and regarded as a flagrant violation of Hindu norms. Lord Dalhousie personally finished the law. On July 16, 1856, the Hindu Widows' Remarriage Act became effective, doing the practice lawfully. Additionally, all of the rights and inheritances that they possessed at the time of her previous marriage were provided by this statute.
