One of the most frequently used techniques in DNA fingerprinting is VNTR (Variable Number of Tandem Repeats). VNTR shows very high degree of polymorphism. It is a type of satellite DNA that is used as a probe in DNA fingerprinting.

Single-stranded conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis is a widely used screening method that allows identification of different genomic variants in a large sample of DNA.

A SCAR is a genomic DNA fragment at a single genetically defined locus that is identified by PCR amplification using a pair of specific oligonucleotide primers.

Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) is a PCR-based technique that uses selective amplification of a subset of digested DNA fragments to generate and compare unique fingerprints for genomes of interest.
