Detailed Solution

The cerebrum, also known as the telencephalon or endbrain, is the largest portion of the brain and contains the cerebral cortex (of the two cerebral hemispheres) and a variety of subcortical structures, including the hippocampus, basal ganglia, and olfactory bulb. The uppermost portion of the human brain's central nervous system is known as the cerebrum. The forebrain develops into the cerebrum during pregnancy (prosencephalon). In mammals, the ventral telencephalon, also known as the subpallium, gives rise to the basal ganglia, and the dorsal telencephalon, also known as the pallium, gives rise to the cerebral cortex. The brain's left and right cerebral hemispheres are essentially symmetrical.
