Detailed Solution

Sound travels the slowest in the gases.
Out of the three mediums (gas, liquid, and solid), sound waves travel the slowest through gases, faster through liquids, and fastest through solids. Temperature also affects the speed of sound. So if we increase the temperature, the speed of sound will also increase. As solids are closely packed molecules, sound travels fastest in solids and molecules of the liquid are not packed that much tighter, and in gases, molecules are loosely bound. This is the reason in gases, the speed of sound is slowest.
