Detailed Solution

Pastoral and nomadic communities caught stealing wood were called criminal tribes. With the introduction of forest laws, many communities lost their sole source of income. However, the locals were restricted from letting their cattle graze, cut wood, hunt, fish, or collect fruits and roots. Then tribes started stealing wood. During the British reign, using forest produce became illegal. It was known as stealing. Thus, communities like the Yerukula, Karacha, and Korava were called “criminal tribes.” They were forced to work in plantations, mines, or factories under government supervision.
