Peasants refused to pay revenue and chaukidari taxes. Revenue and chowkidari tax were imposed on farmers by Britishers from 1907. The chaukidari tax was collected by British officials from farmers to protect their fields by appointing a village chowkidar. These taxes were refused to pay by farmers in Bihar at the time when Gandhi Ji started the Civil disobedience movement. The civil Disobedience movement was started by breaking the salt law but in every place in India, there was no coastal area like Bihar to participate in the salt march
