Detailed Solution

People hated 'Bastille' because it stood for despotic power.
The Bastille was a French fortified prison. It was an emblem of King Louis XVI's oppressive authority. As a result, it was revealed throughout France. The fortification was destroyed, and the stone shards were sold in markets. On July 14, 1789, a mob in Paris stormed the Bastille in the hopes of freeing political prisoners housed in the stronghold. The commander of the Bastille was slain in the ensuing armed battle, and the captives were liberated even though only seven were. People hated 'Bastille' because it stood for despotic power.
Historians considered this period the start of a chain of events that eventually led to the king's execution in France, but most people at the time did not expect this outcome.
