Chzami village is a small agricultural-oriented village in the Phek district of Nagaland. The people of this village belong to the Chakhesang community. They are mainly engaged in terrace cultivation. Most people in the village have their fields, but they also work and help collectively in each other’s fields. They make groups of 7 to 8 people and take the work of clearing an entire mountainside from weeds. People of each group eat together at the end of the day when their work is over. This continues to go on until the work is completed finally. They change the hilly lands into flat plots carved out in steps. The side of each plot is raised to retain water which is helpful in rice cultivation.
