People’s successful struggle against privatisation of water in ________ reminds us that popular struggles are integral to the working of democracy.

The World Bank exerted pressure on Bolivia's government to relinquish authority over municipal water delivery. These rights for the city of Cochabamba were sold by the government to a large corporation. The cost of water was instantly hiked by four times by the firm. Bolivia had a public uprising over the country's high water tariffs. Bolivia's water battle was the name of this demonstration. The group known as FEDECOR was in charge of this demonstration in Bolivia. Local professionals from the engineering and environmental fields made up this group. They received support from the federation of farmers, the union of manufacturing employees, middle-class students at the University of Cochabamba, as well as the increasing number of street children living on the streets of the city.
