Phule dedicated his book to all those Americans who had fought to free enslaved people. Jyotirao Phule, born in 1827, developed his views in response to the injustices of caste society. He asserted that the inhabitants of this area before the entrance of the Aryans had been subjugated and enslaved by the Brahmans, who were considered foreign Aryans who originated outside of the subcontinent. Phule asserted that the aristocracy had no right to the possessions and power they possessed. In 1873, Phule wrote a book under the working-class alias Gulamgiri. Ten years earlier, due to the American Civil War, slavery was abolished in America. He published a book as a homage to all the Americans who had fought to free the enslaved people. Phule was concerned about the pain and suffering experienced by women from upper castes.
