Physicians such as Vaghabatta wrote treatises on Ayurveda. Vaghabatta is one of the most influential writers and doctors and was also Ayurveda's advisor. Several works are associated with his name as an author, principally the Ashtāṅgasaṅgrah and the Ashtangahridayasaṃhita. The best recent research but the arguments that detail these two works cannot be called the product of a single author. The whole question of the relationship between these two works and their authorship was very tough and still away from the solution. Both were frequently referenced in the earlier classical works and the Charaka Samhita. Vāgbhaṭa also said that in the closing verses of the Ashtanga to have been the son of Simhagupta and pupil of Avalokita.
