Ploughing along contour lines is called contour ploughing. Contours are imaginary lines on a map connecting places with the same elevation. The ploughing of lands along the contour lines and cultivating in these regions is a practice followed by farmers on slopes to reduce soil erosion. The ploughing of contour lines creates a break in the water flow as it moves down the slopes.
